Park Hyatt Chicago is the way to experience the Magnificent Mile, Chicago’s famous shopping district. Our room had a perfect view of the Chicago Water Tower, surrounding architecture, and a swath of Lake Michigan. Located on Michigan Avenue, we were within walking distance of most of the itinerary stops for One Perfect Day in Chicago.
To be honest, I was sticker shocked by hotel prices in Chicago. It doesn’t help that state hotel tax is 16.4%. You can easily spend $300-plus for a three- to four-star hotel in the Windy City. We were staying only two nights as we passed through on our way to visit family in Michigan and Ohio. I opted to pay for our room with United Mileage Plus miles. I wasn’t disappointed when I saw the sunken tub with views to the gorgeous skyline. The hotel is immaculate, upscale, and the staff was courteous and helpful.

We are thinking of having a family reunion in downtown Chicago. Do you think it’s worth the money or would our money be better spent going to an all-inclusive resort somewhere all together?

Hi Leah. I think your choice depends on what your family enjoys doing — city life or beach time? I would lean towards an all-inclusive resort just because there are activities for adults and kids and you can sit around and shoot the breeze, rather than pound the pavement.
